Flu A: Special vaccine for pregnant women

We already have a date for the start of vaccination against influenza A in Spain. There will be two types of vaccines: one for pregnant women and one for the rest of the population.

For pregnant women, a traditional, non-reinforced modality will be used, produced in the same way as the one used every winter, since there has not been time to test the other variants with them. According to Health, what it is about is to give them a little more security, since as it is a drug that is already known, the risks and dangers of presenting some unexpected side effect are reduced.

As for the rest of the population, another more advanced vaccine will be used, which contains so-called adjuvants, substances to enhance the response of the immune system, and provide rapid and lasting protection to those vaccinated to ensure the immunization of people from among 18 and 60 years of age, against influenza A, only one dose of the vaccine will suffice. This is one of the advantages of this vaccine, although the Ministry of Health reports that two doses of it will probably be used for minors and the elderly. As for the priority groups, they will be, in addition to pregnant women, the chronically ill and essential services personnel (police, firefighters, health, civil protection, prison officials), who may be vaccinated first.Vilma Medina.
